RoK President Moon Jae-in meets Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong

The Republic of Korea (RoK)’s President Moon Jae-in on November 14th had a talk with Singapore Prime Minister (PM) Lee Hsien Loong in the Philippines on the sideline of the 31st ASEAN Summit.

During the meeting, the two leaders agreed that the RoK and Singapore have developed into close partners in various fields such as politic, economy and human exchanges, and agreed to cooperate with each other in order to maintain the ties.

While noting that both countries have an interest in innovative growth via new growth engines in the era of the fourth Industrial Revolution, Mr. Moon said Seoul hopes to work together on Singapore’s Smart Nation initiative.

PM Lee emphasized that the RoK and Singapore have a lot of room for cooperation, stressing they will closely cooperate, not only bilaterally, but also multilaterally through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Earlier, on November 9th, President Moon Jae-in announced the “New Southern Policy” which aims to better connect the RoK to ASEAN and expand the economic influence of Asia’s fourth-largest economy in the region home to over half a billion people./.
