The President made the proposal at the 26th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, in Port Moresby of Papua New Guinea.

In the annual summit, President Moon Jae-in said his nation supports the mechanism for implementing the APEC Roadmap on the Internet and Digital Economy, which was adopted last year.

As part of this effort, Moon said the APEC Digital Innovation Fund will play a role as an investment fund that stimulates growth in order to draw the engagement of economists in each economy and help improve the capacity of developing economies.

The President expressed hope that the countries will reduce the digital divide and move toward co-prosperity.

At the 26th APEC Economic Leader’s Meeting themed “Harnessing Inclusive Opportunities, Embracing the Digital Future,” the leaders of the 21 member economies discussed measures for deepening integration, nurturing inclusive growth and structural reforms, and promoting the digital economy.

Earlier, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc left Hanoi on the night of November 16th for Papua New Guinea to attend the 26th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting on November 17th-18th, at the invitation of Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.

2018 marks Vietnam’s 20-year membership in the APEC forum. Vietnam is among a few APEC members having hosted APEC summits twice, in 2006 and 2017./.
