In early March, President Moon Jae-in named Mr. Jang as Seoul's new ambassador to Beijing in a shake-up of top envoys in major neighboring countries.

Besides, President Moon Jae-in also appointed Nam Gwan-pyo, who served as Deputy Chief of the Presidential National Security Office, as Ambassador to Japan and Lee Sok-bae, the consul general in Vladivostok, as Ambassador to Russia.

Born in Gwangju, Jang Ha-sung studied law at Korea University and earned his master’s degree in economics from the State University of New York at Albany. He later obtained a Ph.D. in business at the University of Pennsylvania.

He is known to have deep knowledge about the Asian power, as he previously worked as an exchange professor at China's Renmin University and Fudan University and as an international advisor for the China Securities Regulatory Commission.

The reshuffle came as RoK seeks to enhance relations with China./.
