The plenary session of the Russian Communist Party (CPRF) Central Committee has passed a unanimous proposal to the Delegates Congress to endorse Pavel Grudinin as Party’s choice for the presidential elections, to be held on March 18th.

Mr. Pavel Grudinin, 57-year old, known for running an “island of socialism”, will replace the party’s leader Gennady Zyuganov as the party’s choice.

Earlier, incumbent President Vladimir Putin said he would seek re-election as an independent candidate.

The upcoming election will be the fourth in Putin’s political career. He has been in power since 2000, either as President or Prime Minister. If he wins the March election, he will be eligible to serve until 2024.

The election was previously planned to be held on March 11th, but was postponed to March 18th./.
