Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev visits Algeria

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev began an official visit to Algeria at the invitation of his Algerian counterpart Ahmed Ouyahia.

The Russian Prime Minister was received, during his visit, by the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika and met the President of the Council of the Nation, Abdelkader Bensalah, the President of the People’s National Assembly, Said Bouhadja, and the Prime Minister, Ahmed Ouyahia.

According to a statement issued by the Algerian prime minister, Medvedev's visit aims to deepen and strengthen the bilateral strategic dialogue between Algeria and Russia and their multi-faceted cooperation based on the strategic partnership agreement signed between the two countries in 2001.

During the visit to Algeria, Prime Minister Medvedev also oversaw the signing of a raft of economic agreements and discussed counterterroism cooperation.

The visit, which comes after the 8th Russian-Algerian Joint Inter-Governmental Committee for Commercial, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation held on September 8th in Algiers, aims to strengthen strategic dialogue and multifaceted cooperation based on the Partnership Declaration inked in 2001, under the supervision of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin./.
