Luring 430 delegates from Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and Europe, it is the second time that the forum is held in Havana; the first time was when the 4th Meeting took place in 1993.

The event aims to build consensus on the future action for left-wing political parties and organizations in Latin America.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Forrum Executive Secretary Monica Valente highlighted the importance of dialogue and consensus against new attacks on progressive governments.

"It's not about ignoring our problems or making a list of our achievements. At this 24th meeting, we are going to have to make an in-depth analysis of the current situation of capitalism, how our adversaries behave, what our forces are," Valente said.

On the sidelines of the event, Nguyen Duc Loi, 12th PCC member and General Director of Vietnam News Agency, met with Jose Ramon Balaguer, Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and head of its Department of External Relations.

They discussed the situation of the two nations and international issues of mutual concern, as well as activities to bolster cooperation between the two Parties and countries.

The Sao Paulo Forum is a conference of leftist political parties and other organizations from Latin America and the Caribbean. It was launched by the Workers’ Party of Brazil in 1990 in the city of Sao Paulo.

The event wrapped up on July 17th./.
