The Nobel Prize in Economics was awarded to Mr. Richard Thaler for his work on behavioural economics, reshaping economics and having far-reaching implications for public policy.

Mr. Kip Thorne, Barry Barish and Rainer Weiss were presented physics awards for their work on the Ligo experiment, which was able to detect ripples in the fabric of spacetime.

Besides, Mr. Jacques Dubochet, Joachim Frank, and Richard Henderson were given chemistry prizes for developing a way to create detailed images of the molecules that drive life, a technology that the Nobel committee said allowed scientists to visualize molecular processes they had never previously seen.

Mr. Michael Young, Michael Rosbash, and Jeffrey Hall were presented with physiology/medicine prizes for their discoveries of molecular mechanisms controlling the circadian rhythm.

And Mr. Kazuo Ishiguro was granted the literature prize for his novel “The Remains of the Day”. The Nobel Committee's representative said Ishiguro received the prize because, "in novels of great emotional force", he "has uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world."

Finally, the Nobel Peace Prize was presented to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). The organization is receiving the award for its work to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons and for its ground-breaking efforts to achieve a treaty-based prohibition of such weapons.

The laureates were also given a diploma, a medallion, and 9 million Swedish Krona (around USD1 million) each./.
