For the third year in a row, Switzerland took to the top spot, scoring high in areas of business, quality of life and cultural influence.
Japan now ranks No.2 overall, a move up of three positions from 2018. Canada, Germany and the UK round out the top five, followed by Sweden, Australia, the US, Norway and France.
The rankings evaluate 80 countries across a range of categories, from economic influence and military might to education and quality of life, to capture how nations are perceived on a global scale.
The 2019 rankings were based on a survey of just over 20,000 people comprising business leaders, ‘informed elites' and the general public in 36 countries.
Germany was recognized as having the highest brand power, France is top in cosmetics and fashion, Italy takes the crown for food and wine, and Japan wins in technology and electronics. Switzerland is the most innovative, the US is the most powerful, the UK is the best for education, and New Zealand the best for retirement./.
