Thailand: early voting kicks off

Nearly 2.6 million voters across Thailand started to cast early ballots on March 17th, a week ahead the country’s first general election scheduled for March 24th.

Despite hot weather, hundreds of thousands from walks of life lined up for vote casting in 395 polling stations across the country.

The Bangkok municipal administration set up 77 polling stations with 308 ballot boxes in 50 districts.

Bang Kapi district recorded the highest number of voters registering for early voting with over 60,000 people, followed by Bang Khun Thian (42,000), Huay Khwang (40,000), Lat Krabang (35,000) and Ratchathewi (33,000).

During the March 24 general election, about 7 million voters out of the total 51 million are expected to turn up for the first time./.
