The agreement was reached after high-level officials from the two sides met at the border village of Panmunjom to discuss the implementation of the Panmunjom Declaration.

As scheduled, the talks was set to take place on the northern side of the truce village of Panmunjom from 10h00, according to the RoK’s Defense Ministry. It aimed at ending “hostile acts” between the two, which “escalate military tension”.

It was the first such talks since the two sides met in December 2007.

The RoK’s delegation led by Major General Kim Do-gyun included five members, and the DPRK’s delegation led by Lieutenant General An Ik-san included four other officials.

The military talks, initially slated for May, were postponed when Pyongyang abruptly canceled bilateral high-level talks in protest at the annual the RoK-US air force drills.

On April 27th, the DPRK’s leader Kim Jong-un officially stepped over a cracked slab of concrete at the world’s most heavily armed border to greet the RoK’s President Moon Jae-in.

The two leaders met at the Demilitarised Zone that divides the two countries for a historic summit, the highest-level encounter yet in a recent whirlwind of nuclear diplomacy.

Kim Jong-un became the first DPRK leader to cross into RoK territory since 1953, when active hostilities of the Korean war ended./.
