Seoul’s Ministry of Unification said the ceremony would take place at Panmun Station in the DPRK’s border town of Kaesong.

The Ministry also announced that the two sides plan to send 100 participants each to the event and that both sides will continue to discuss further details concerning the matter.

It was a part of efforts to implement the Pyongyang Declaration, which RoK President Moon Jae-in and top DPRK leader Kim Jong-un signed after their third summit in Pyongyang in September.

The two leaders earlier agreed to hold a ceremony before the end of the year to break ground for the project to reconnect two sets of cross-border railways and roads.

Before the Koreas were divided in 1948, there were two railway lines running down either side of the peninsula.

As a gesture towards reconciliation, the two Koreas reconnected the western line in 2007 and limited numbers of freight trains transported materials and goods to and from the Seoul-invested Kaesong Industrial Zone in the DPRK for about a year./.
