“This feeling of deep responsibility towards my country… prompted me to decide to run again for the office of President of Ukraine,” he told a forum in Kiev ahead of March 31st polls.

Speaking to supporters in the capital Kiev,  Poroshenko vowed to continue pushing for Ukraine's accession to the European Union and the NATO military alliance if he won the vote on March 31st.

Mr. Petro Poroshenko, born in 1965, is the fifth and current President of Ukraine, in office since 2014. He served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2009 to 2010, and as the Minister of Trade and Economic Development in 2012.

From 2007 until 2012, Poroshenko headed the Council of Ukraine’s National Bank.

Poroshenko’s main rival, former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, entered the race last week, promising to regain control of the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula and the separatist-held areas in the east./.
