The United Nations (UN) said it would ask countries to provide USD40.5 million for the Government and people of Haiti to tackle the cholera epidemic.

The resolution welcomes the new approach aimed at reducing the incidence of cholera by improving Haiti's water, sanitation and health systems, improving access to care and treatment, and supporting victims and their families through their communities.
By April 2013, cholera had killed at least 7,000 Haitians and sickened several hundred thousand more, while spreading to the nearby countries of the Dominican Republic and Cuba.
There were more than 18,600 cases in the first six months of 2015 and some 7,451 in the same period in 2014, according to Health Ministry figures.
The outbreak began in mid October 2010 in the rural center department of Haiti, killing 4,672 people by March 2011 and hospitalizing thousands more./.
