At the meeting, the national security advisers committed to continue coordinating closely.

The discussions were to lay the ground-work for an upcoming inter-Korean Summit, and talks between DPRK leader Kim Jong-un and President Donald Trump. DPRK has expressed a willingness to the US to discuss denuclearization.

Mr. Chung Eui-yong and Shotaro Yachi are the first foreign national security advisers to meet with Mr. Bolton since he started in his new post on April 9th.

Earlier, Mr. Chung Eui-yong paid a visit to Washington. His surprise trip came ahead of the RoK and US Presidents' separate summits with DPRK leader Kim Jong-un.

President Kim Jong-un is scheduled to meet with the RoK President Moon Jae-in on April 27th, the first meeting between the leaders in a decade.

Mr Trump also said he would meet the DPRK’s leader in May or early June, where he hopes to reach an agreement on denuclearization with the Pyongyang regime./.
