Mr. Pence flew into Tel Aviv's Ben-Gurion Airport from Jordan on a US military plane, after visiting US troops on the Syrian border.

Vice President Pence was welcomed at the airport by Israel’s Tourism Minister Yariv Levin and US Envoy to Israel David Friedman.

Israeli police have completed security preparations for the visit, the police said in a statement, adding that Israel’s Border Police, counter-terror units and US security services are also involved in the efforts.

“The security operation includes thousands of policemen and officers carrying out security measures during the Vice President’s visit, and police units will be in all areas where the Vice President will be visiting”, the statement said.

As scheduled, Mr. Mike Pence will meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, deliver an address to the Knesset and visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial.

This is the highest-level visit to the region since President Donald Trump made his Jerusalem declaration on December 6th, 2017, and promised to begin the process of moving the American embassy to the city./.
