World Economic Forum 2019 opens in Davos

The World Economic Forum (WEF), attracting 3,000 participants, has opened in Dovos, Switzerland on January 22nd.

The theme of this year’s edition is “Globalisation 4.0: Shaping a Global Architecture in the Age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

The event’s keynote speeches were delivered by President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of the Federal Department of Finance Ueli Maurer, and Founder and Executive Chairman of the WEF Klaus Schwab.

This year’s event draws the attention of more than 3,000 participants from around the world, including business leaders, entrepreneurs, economists and financial experts, government and private sector representatives and universities.

The forum addresses the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution era in terms of advanced technology, such as artificial intelligence, robotics, fine medicine, self-driving vehicles, Internet of Things and others, and reviews the framework of understanding the transformational power of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Over the course of each year, the forum also convenes regional meetings in locations across Africa, East Asia, and Latin America, and holds two further annual meetings in China and the United Arab Emirates. Beside meetings, the forum produces a series of research reports and engages its members in sector-specific initiatives. It also has offices in New York, Beijing, Tokyo and San Francisco.

Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Xuan Phuc, leading a high-level ranking delegation, has left Hanoi for the forum.

The PM is accompanied by Minister, Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung, Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Vietnamese Ambassador to Switzerland Pham Hai Bang, and Assistant to the PM Bui Huy Hung, among others.

The WEF is a not-for-profit foundation, known for its Annual Meeting which takes place in the modern Davos Congress Centre. The aim of the meeting is to set an agenda that drives greater multi-stakeholder collaboration to address political, economic and societal challenges of our times.

The WEF 2019 will run from January 22nd to 25th./.
