The Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) in Prey Veng province built the boat in a period of over 6 months.

“With a total length of 87.3m, UYFC and Prey Veng administration... you are the new Guinness record holders for the longest dragon boat in the world,” Guinness World Records adjudicator Pravin Patel announced during a recognition ceremony attended by a number of government officials.

UYFC Vice President Sar Sokha said the making of the longest dragon boat in the world aims to remember the long history of the production and use of dragon boats by Khmer people in old times. It is also meant to promote the spirit of national affection and solidarity among the youth in conserving the legacies left by ancestors.

The previous record was held by China with a 77.80 meter-long boat in 2016.

To date, Cambodia has four records in the Guinness book. The three others include the longest hand-woven scarf, measuring 1,149.8-meter-long and 88-centimeter-wide, the largest Madison dance, involving 2,015 participants, and the largest traditional sticky rice cake, weighing 4.04 tons.

The USD60,000-boat can accommodate 179 oarsmen, and it will be exhibited at the water and boat race festival in Phnom Penh from November 21st - 23rd before being returned to Prey Veng provincial Hall./.
