Zimbabwe’s President announces 22-member cabinet

Zimbabwe’s new President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced a 22-member Cabinet made up entirely of ruling party members.

Six new Deputy Ministers and 10 Ministers of State for Provincial Affairs were also appointed.

Cde Patrick Chinamasa is now the substantive Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, while Cde Obert Mpofu was appointed Minister of Home Affairs and Culture.

Air Force of Zimbabwe Commander Air Marshal Perrance Shiri is the new Minister of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement, while Dr. Lazarus Dokora remains in charge of the Primary and Secondary Education portfolio.

Mr Kembo Mohadi is the new Minister of Defence, Security and War Veterans.

Major-General Sibusiso Moyo is the new Minister of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Cde Kazembe Kazembe is appointed as the Minister of Sports, Arts and Recreation.

Earlier, on November 24th, Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa was sworn in as the third President of Zimbabwe since the country gained independence in 1980, taking the oath of office in front of 70,000 people in Harare’s main sports stadium.

Mnangagwa raised a loud cheer when he pledged that “free and fair elections” would be held next year as scheduled and that the “people’s voice would be heard”.

The event marked the power ending by Mr. Robert Mugabe who resigned as President of Zimbabwe shortly after lawmakers began the impeachment process to end his nearly four decades of rule./.
