The state-run Herald newspaper quoted Mnangagwa on January 18th as saying “Zimbabwe is going for elections in four to five months’ time” while on a visit to neighboring Mozambique.

"We will ensure that Zimbabwe delivers free, credible, fair and indisputable elections to ensure Zimbabwe engages the world as a qualified democratic state,” the President promised.

Earlier, Zimbabwe’s former Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, a 76-year-old liberation war veteran, was sworn in as President on November 24th, 2017, after Mr. Robert Mugabe resigned as President of Zimbabwe shortly after lawmakers began the impeachment process to end his nearly four decades of rule.

Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa had been a member of Mugabe's cabinet since the country's independence, and Vice President since 2014.

Mnangagwa, the leader of the ruling ZANU-PF party, said Zimbabwe is willing to work with foreign partners in rebuilding the economy while developing better relations with the international community.
