According to a brief statement released by the French Presidency on May 6th, at the invitation of the Chancellor, Hollande set up a visit with Angela Merkel in the hours after the winner of the French election would be announced.

On May 8th, the two leaders held a bilateral meeting at 19h00 (local time), followed by a private dinner, Efe news reported.

They, five years ago, had a bilateral meeting when Mr. Hollande was sworn in as French President.

The pro-EU centrist Emmanuel Macron has won the French presidency in a decisive victory over the far-right National Front leader, Marine Le Pen.

Mr Macron will become the first president from outside the two traditional main parties since the modern republic's foundation in 1958.

As scheduled, outgoing French President Francois Hollande will transfer authority to newly-elected Emmanuel Macron on May 14th./.
