Pakistan’s Parliament to elect new PM

Pakistan’s Parliament will meet on August 1st to elect a new Prime Minister after the resignation of Mr. Nawaz Sharif.

The ruling party named Mr Nawaz's younger brother Shahbaz Sharif, 66, as his successor over the weekend.

Nawaz Sharif, the 15th Prime Minister in Pakistan's 70-year history, will be ousted before completing a full term.

The nomination papers shall be delivered to the Secretary of the National Assembly by 14h00 on July 31st, according to a notification by the National Assembly Secretariat.

It said the assembly would meet at 15h00 on August 1st to elect a Prime Minister.

Mr. Abbasi is expected to take over as interim Prime Minister until Shahbaz is elected to parliament, and then to the Prime Minister's office.

Mr. Shahbaz Sharif is a Pakistani politician who currently serves as the Chief Minister of Punjab, since June 8th, 2013./.
