A polio outbreak has been identified in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

At least four cases have been diagnosed.

Two were found in the eastern Maniema province and two further south in Haut-Lomami province, the WHO says.

These are the first cases of polio in the vast Central African nation since 2012.

Polio is a potentially deadly infection mainly affecting young people and can result in permanent paralysis.

The virus some 30 years ago paralysed more than 350,000 children each year in more than 125 countries./.
