President Putin begins visit to Turkmenistan

Russian President Vladimir Putin began his official visit to Turkmenistan at the invitation of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on October 2nd.

The Kremlin said the two leaders plan to discuss key aspects of bilateral cooperation in politics, trade and the economy, science and education, culture and humanitarian areas, as well as current regional issues.

Besides, several bilateral documents are expected to be signed following the talks.

This is the first visit by President Putin to Turkmenistan during the past five years.

The last face-to-face meeting of the heads of state was held in November 2016 in Sochi. That meeting was held behind closed doors with a limited number of participants.

Diplomatic relations between Russia and Turkmenistan were established on April 8th, 1992.

120 intergovernmental agreements covering all spheres of cooperation have already been signed by the two countries./.
