Shahid Khaqan Abbasi sworn in as Prime Minister of Pakistan

Mr. Shahid Khagan Abbasi on August 1st was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Pakistan after securing 221 votes.

Mr. Abbasi was elected Prime Minister by lawmakers in the National Assembly.

"I am grateful to the people of Pakistan, and I am grateful to the "people's Prime Minister", Nawaz Sharif," he continued.

Nawaz Sharif was the 15th Prime Minister in Pakistan's 70-year history, roughly half of which was under military rule, to be removed before term.

Abbasi was sworn-in at a special ceremony at the President's House, where President Mamnoon Hussain administered the oath to him.

Mr. Shahbaz Sharif, who is the Chief Minister of Punjab, is the younger brother of Mr. Nawaz Sharif./.
