Storm hits Moscow, 14 killed

At least 14 people have been killed due to a severe thunderstorm which hit Moscow.

Hundreds of trees were toppled, and about 150 people needed medical help. It was the deadliest storm in the city for more than 100 years, Russia's Interfax News Agency reported.

According to the AP, more than 200 houses lost roofs, more than 2,000 cars were damaged and around 14,000 trees were downed.

Electrical cables were damaged as the city was lashed with 110 km/h winds, hail and torrential rain. Authorities deployed 35,000 emergency workers to clear out debris in the city of 12 million people.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin expressed condolences for those who died.

Also on May 30th, at least six persons were killed in Bangladesh as Cyclone Mora wreaked havoc in the country's south-eastern coast, leaving behind a trail of damaged houses and trees./.
