Typhoon Talim made landfall on the island of Kyushu in southwestern Japan on September 17th, dumping torrential rain and grounding hundreds of flights.

In Kagoshima prefecture, authorities ordered the evacuation of 230,000 people and some 1,500 households were left without power, according to broadcaster TBS.

At least 644 domestic flights were cancelled due to strong winds, and regional railway services have been suspended.

Warnings have been issued of rainstorms, high seas, possible landslides and flooding across the southern half of the Japanese archipelago.

Talim had been expected to move towards China, where more than 200,000 people in Fujian and Zhejiang provinces have been evacuated, China’s official Xinhua news agency said./.
