President Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted receptions on December 2 for leaders of big Russian companies which have business ties in Vietnam, namely the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Gazprom, Novatek, Sistema and Miratorg.

“Vietnam has always created favourable conditions for foreign investors, including those from Russia, especially in the fields of energy, high-tech applications in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and high-tech agriculture,” he said, adding that he hoped Russian businesses expand their investment in and cooperation with Vietnam to tap the potential and strength of both countries and meet their needs, contributing to promoting the bilateral strategic partnership, for the interest of people and businesses.

Meeting with CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc appreciated the fund’s contribution to the successful research and production of Sputnik V and Sputnik Light, the first COVID-19 vaccines in the world. He welcomed the cooperation between the fund and Vietnamese partners in transferring production technology for COVID-19 vaccines and drugs, and asked the fund to help Vietnam access Russia’s vaccine and treatment drugs, as well as other large projects in Vietnam.  

Talking to the Chairman of Sistema, Vladimir Yevtushenkov, the Vietnamese President welcomed the group for cooperating with Vietnam in the supply of vaccines, treatment drugs and medical supplies, as well as in building a factory for the production of vaccines and drugs in Hai Phong City’s Vietnam – Russia Industrial Zone. He also asked the group to expand cooperation with Vietnam in agriculture and forestry, in which both countries have potential.

Meeting with Deputy Chairwoman of the Gazprom Management Committee Elena Burmistrova, the Vietnamese President affirmed that oil and gas and energy are among pillars of the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership, and welcomed the cooperation between the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group and Gazprom over the past time. He pledged to create favourable conditions for Gazprom to expand its investment in Vietnam to new fields of both sides’ potential and needs, such as gas-fuelled power, and fuel for transport.

Receiving Novatek President Leonid Mikhelson, the Vietnamese President appreciated the group’s experience and potential. He thanked the group for giving Vietnam vaccines, and welcomed the cooperative deal inked between Novatek and Vietnam’s PVPower. He affirmed that Vietnam is ready to facilitate the participation of foreign investors, including Novatek, in energy and oil and gas projects in Vietnam, contributing to further strengthening the traditional cooperation between the two countries in energy and oil and gas.      

At the meeting with President of Miratorg Victor Linnik, the Vietnamese State leader applauded agricultural cooperation between Vietnam and Russia and the fact that Russia has become the second largest exporter of meat to Vietnam, thereby contributing to promoting economic and trade cooperation, making the most of the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union, meeting the interests of the two countries.

Leaders of the Russian companies highlighted the potential of the Vietnamese market for investment and cooperation, and showed their impressions on Vietnam’s development, especially control of COVID-19. They affirmed that their companies will continue to join hands with Vietnamese partners to implement signed projects and deals, while considering the prospect of expanding their operations in Vietnam./.
