Cooperation on improving cultural life in border areas and islands

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the High Command of Border Guard have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strengthening and improving the effectiveness of culture, sports and tourism and family-based activities in border areas and islands in the 2017-2022 period.

Accordingly, the two sides will cooperate in preserving and promoting ethnic traditional cultural values in border areas, increasing the role of villages heads and prestigious people in preserving cultural identities. They will also organize sports and tourism activities; promote the movement to do exercises according to Uncle Ho’s example; and associate the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values with tourism development in ethnic-inhabited areas and mountainous regions, while promoting culture and arts activities to serve ethnic people and border posts, contributing to improving spiritual cultural life and stabilizing life for local people.

Additional efforts will build plans on organizing culture and arts exchanges with border guard and people in neighbouring countries to enhance people’s diplomacy and cultural diplomacy; regularly organize sports activities between border guards with local people on great festivals, cultural traditional days and political events of units and localities to promote solidarity and closeness between soldiers and people; coordinate to study, collect, maintain and develop national sports and folk games of ethnic minority groups to preserve traditional and cultural identities of the nation; and promote the dissemination of laws on tourism, contributing to improve legal consciousness in tourism activities in general and those related to border areas and islands.

Finally, the MoU calls for proposing policies related to border road travel through border gates and build plans on organizing tourist survey delegations to border areas and islands to build appropriate tourism products, contributing to attracting tourists and improving awareness of sovereignty on border, and creating conditions for foreign tourists to Vietnam through border gates.

In addition, every year, the two sides will jointly organize activities to celebrate Vietnamese Family Day (June 28th), the Happiness International Day (March 20th), and the National Action Month on Family Violence Prevention and Control./.
