121 typical Vietnamese dishes for 2022 announced

The Vietnam Culinary Culture Association (VCCA) announced 121 typical Vietnamese dishes for 2022 at a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City on December 22, reported VNA.

The dishes including 47 from the north, 37 from the central region and 37 from southern localities.

The dishes were selected basing on their cultural values, history, quality, as well as production, processing, preservation and circulation technology, and economic values.

VCCA Vice President La Quoc Khanh said that with the aim of restoring, preserving and developing the Vietnamese culinary culture, the association has implemented a project to survey, introduce and collect data on Vietnamese cuisine as a first step to bring the Vietnam brand to the world via cuisine.

By the end of 2022, the project has collected the data of 421 dishes from 60 cities and provinces.

VCCA President Nguyen Quoc Ky said that the association will continue to complete a database of 1,000 typical dishes of Vietnam in 2023, thus making a Vietnamese culinary map in 2024 and building a Vietnamese culinary museum in the future.

Vietnamese film selected in Oscars category

The organising board of the 95th Academy Awards (Oscars) announced on December 21 that Vietnamese movie “Nhung dua tre trong suong”, known as “Children of the Mist” in English, was

Vietnamese movie “Nhung dua tre trong suong” is named in the shortlist of the top 15 Best Documentary Feature Film category. 

Accordingly, the top 15 movies were chosen from 144 documentary films from 92 countries.

According to VOV, this comes after action flick “578: Phat đan cua ke dien”, known as “578 Magnum” in English, was also named among the International Feature Film nominees for consideration at the 95th Oscars. However, the film was ultimately not included in the shortlist.

The official Oscar nominees are set to be unveiled on January 24, while the awards ceremony will be broadcast on March 12 from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.

"Children of the Mist" was directed by Ha Le Diem and is one of the outstanding documentary features from the nation this year. The documentary was screened at film festivals in many countries, including the United States, France, Australia, Mexico, Kosovo, Singapore, and Cambodia.

The 90-minute long documentary is narrated by a 12-year-old ethnic H'Mong girl who resides in the northern town of Sa Pa.

The motion pictures discusses the clash between ancient customs and modern values in an environment where children from a traditional culture also have access to the outside world.

Vietnamese folk songs performed in Italian university

According to VNA, students who are studying Vietnamese from the Faculty of Asian and Northern African Studies under the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice performed Vietnamese folk songs, water puppet shows and recited the Tale of Kieu during the “Vietnam Soul” event.

Le Thi Bich Huong, a lecturer of Vietnamese practice from the university, said performances by the first to third-year students are also meant to report the results of their studies on Vietnamese language and culture.

The Vietnamese language has been taught in the university in 2019. It is the only place in Italy with the most complete Vietnamese language curricula, providing students with knowledge of history, literature, economy, geopolitics, art and every aspect of Vietnamese culture.

Head of the faculty Prof. Marco Ceresa said next year, the faculty will launch a master programme in Vietnamese and hold more cultural exchanges between Italian and Vietnamese students in the university./.
