Hanoi ice cream introduced to Venezuelans

The Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela, in collaboration with "Heladería 1000 sabores" - an ice cream parlor of 1000 flavours - in the state of Mérida, has recently organised an event to introduce “Hanoi Ice Cream” (Helado Ha Noi) to further promote Vietnamese cuisine, reported Vietnam News Agency.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador Le Viet Duyen expressed his desire to connect the cultures and peoples, as well as strengthen to the traditional friendship of the two countries.

Da Silva, the owner of Heladería 1000 sabores which twice won the Guinness record for the most number of ice cream flavours in the world in 1991 and 1996, said she hopes to cooperate with Venezuela-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce (CAVENVIET) to open a restaurant system promoting Vietnamese cuisine as well as Hanoi’s ice cream in Caracas and states in Venezuela.

The presence of Vietnamese ice cream, made from green beans, in the famous ice cream parlor is expected to help promote Vietnamese cuisine to locals and international tourists, and make the image of Vietnam closer and closer to the daily life of Venezuelans.

Vietnam to attend World Pencak Silat Championship in Malaysia

Vietnam will send a young but strong team of athletes to compete at the World Pencak Silat Championship 2022 in Melaka, Malaysia, reported Vietnam News Agency.

They will join with 80 other delegations at the 19th edition of the tournament from July 26-31.

Vietnamese athletes will compete in all 18 categories of tanding (combat) among 22 on offer for both men and women along with four pools of seni (performance). They are aiming for four to five gold medals.

It will be the third international event of Vietnam’s pencak silat team. They finished on top of the Southeast Asian Championship in Singapore in February with nine golds. In May, the team dominated the Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, winning six titles.

The World Pencak Silat Championships was supposed to be held in 2020 with Sarawak as the venue, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the latest world event in Singapore in 2018, Vietnam secured six golds and finished second out of 60 teams. Singapore topped the medal tally with seven golds.

HCM City to host “Cambodia Night” event this September

The Cambodian Ministry of Tourism is scheduled to host the “Cambodia Night” event on September 8 at the International Travel Expo in Ho Chi Minh City, reported the Voice of Vietnam.

In a statement released on July 21, Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism revealed that “Cambodia Night” will feature an array of artistic performances which serve to introduce images of Cambodia’s landscape and people to international friends.

The primary purpose of the function is to promote the potential of Cambodia’s tourism sector, whilst simultaneously advertise the neighbouring country as a sports and tourism destination through the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32) and ASEAN ParaGames 12, both of which will take place in 2023 in Cambodia.

“Cambodia Night” will be held on the sidelines of the International Travel Expo in Ho Chi Minh City which is scheduled to take place from September 6 to September 11.

The expo will involve over 300 booths and is expected to attract customers from over 50 countries worldwide.

Vietnamese chess player wins championship title at Biel Chess International Tournament

Local chess player Le Quang Liem secured the championship title in the Grandmaster Triathlon on July 22 at the Biel International Chess Festival 2022 in Switzerland, reported the Voice of Vietnam.

In the final match of the event, he recorded a draw against Russian chess grandmaster Andrey Esipenko after 42 moves.

The result therefore won Liem 1.5 points to take him top the list with a total of 35.5 points. The second-placed position went to Andrey Esipenko with 32.5 points.

The Vietnamese players currently has Elo ranking of 2722, and is 23rd in the world’s standard chess category.

With this latest championship title, the Vietnamese player added 5.7 points to his Elo ranking. He is also very close to breaking into the global Top 20 list.

Biel Chess International Tournament 2022 took place in Switzerland from July 10 to July 22.

The Grandmaster Triathlon was the centrepiece of the 55th edition of the chess tournament which saw Liem compete against seven other grandmasters from around the world.

COVID-19: Additional 1,071 cases recorded on July 23

The national caseload of COVID-19 reached 10,767,200 on July 23 with 1,071 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health, reported Vietnam News Agency.

A total 9,328 COVID-19 patients were given the all clear on the day, bringing the number of recoveries so far to 9,851,504. There are 37 patients in serious conditions needing breathing support.

No death from COVID-19 was recorded in the past 24 hours. The total fatalities stood at 43,092.

On July 21, 822,240 doses of vaccines were administered, raising the total number of doses of COVID-19 vaccines injected to 242,303,027./.
