HCM City lures 3.25 billion USD in FDI in nine months

According to Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City, the city lured 3.25 billion USD in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first nine months of 2020, down 28 percent over the same period last year.

407.4 million USD was poured into 719 newly-licenced projects, while 283.8 million USD was added into 163 underway projects, and 2.56 billion USD was invested in 2,911 share trading deals.

Trade was the leading sector in FDI attraction with more than 751 million USD, accounting for more than 23 percent of the total. It was followed by property sector with 726.8 million USD, and science-technology with 685.5 million USD, reported VNA.

The department revealed that in the future, the city will prioritise three areas to call for investment: smart city, highly interactive and innovative urban area to the East HCM City, and regional and international financial centre construction.

13th session of the 12th Party Central Committee opened in Hanoi

During the session, member of the committee will discuss important matters, including the socio-economic situation in 2020 and the plan for 2021; draft documents for the 13th National Party Congress; and a personnel plan for the 13th Party Central Committee.

Opening the session, the Party General Secretary asked participants to give objective and comprehensive assessments on the country’s socio-economic situation since the beginning of the year and make forecast for the whole year. He urged them to analyse shortcomings as well as reasons behind them and propose solutions.

The PCC will also have to sketch out major tasks for 2021 and following years, along with possible scenarios so as to prepare suitable responses for even the worst situation.

General Secretary Trong urged the committee to thoroughly review the latest draft documents of the 13th National Party Congress, and approve the draft Political Report, and the draft reports on socio-economy and Party building, so as to send them to National Assembly deputies, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organisations and the public for discussion in mid-October.

Also at this plenum, the Politburo will submit for the first time a draft list of nominated candidates for the Inspection Commission of the 13th Party Central Committee.

Highlighting the significant of personnel work, the Party General Secretary requested the Central Committee to carefully study the lists of nominated candidates for the Party Central Committee and the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission in the 13th tenure.

He stressed that in personnel work, it is important to ensure democracy, fairness, objectivity and transparency, and called for strict handling of any negative phenomena related to the work./.

One more imported COVID-19 case on October 5 in Vietnam

According to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, Vietnam on October 5 evening reported a new imported COVID-19 case which was quarantined upon arrival.

Patient 1097, a 57-year-old French expert, entered Vietnam on September 19 on the flight EK394 from Dubai via the Hanoi-based Noi Bai International Airport.

At present, the woman is being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases No. 2 in Dong Anh district, Hanoi.

However, Vietnam has gone through 33 straight days without a single COVID-19 community infection as no new cases were reported on October 5 morning.

The national count stands still at 1,096, including 691 locally transmitted cases.

A total of 1,020 patients were given the all-clear as of October 5 morning. The fatalities are unchanged at 35.

On the same day, more than 350 Vietnamese citizens were taken home from Taiwan (China) on two flights arranged by Vietnamese authorities, the Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, Bamboo Airways and Taiwanese competent agencies.

Nearly 340 Vietnamese citizens were brought home from European and African countries in a repatriation flight conducted by the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines on October 3-4.

The passengers on board the special flight included children under 18, the elderly, workers whose contracts have expired, students without accommodation due to dormitory closure, and those in difficult circumstances.

Security, safety and hygiene measures were rigorously taken during the flight to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Upon their arrival, all the crew members and passengers were given medical check-ups and put under quarantine in line with regulations.

In the time to come, more repatriation flights will be arranged to bring Vietnamese citizens home, depending on their demand and domestic quarantine capacity./.
