Swiss enterprises invest 1.92 billion USD in Vietnam

(CPV) - Swiss projects covered 13 industries in Vietnam and mostly focused on the manufacturing and processing industry with 52 projects, with a registered capital of 1.73 billion USD, accounting for 93.31% the total investment.

According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Foreign Investment Agency, as of July 20, Switzerland has 177 valid projects with a total registered capital of 1.92 billion USD, ranking 20th out of 140 countries and territories pouring capital into Vietnam.

Accordingly, each project by Swiss enterprises averages 10.8 million USD, lower than the national average project size of 11.8 million USD.

Other industries absorbing investment from Switzerland are health and social assistance, accounting for 2.6%, and wholesale and retail, accounting for 2.68%.

Currently, Swiss firms are investing in 18 out of 63 provinces and cities   nationwide. Dong Nai attracted the most capital with 8 projects, capitalized with 756.6 million USD, accounting for 39.3% of the total.

Kien Giang ranked second with two projects, capitalized with 441.05 million USD and accounting for 22.95%. Ho Chi Minh City ranked third as it lured 98 projects with a total investment of 119.06 million USD, accounting for 9.9%. Following it are Binh Duong, Hung Yen, Hanoi and other localities.

The agency said that in Jan-July 2021, Swiss companies invested in 3 new projects, increased capital in 2 ongoing projects and contributed capital and purchased shares in 9 projects with a total registered capital of 135.86 million USD, ranked 11th out of 86 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.

Exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products fetched 28.6 billion USD

Vietnam earned 28.6 billion USD from exporting agricultural, forestry and fishery products in Jan-July 2021, a year-on-year rise of 26.7%, in which trade surplus reached about 3.9 billion USD, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Accordingly, in July 2021, export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products is estimated at 4.2 billion USD, up 26.7% and down 9.5% from a year earlier.

In general, in the 7 months, exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products were valued at 28.6 billion USD, up 26.7% year on year. In which, export of main agricultural products was estimated at over 12.2 billion USD, up 15.1%; main forest products reached about 10.2 billion USD, up 54%; seafood, over 4.9 billion USD, up 12%; and livestock production, 254 million USD, up 16%.

In the first seven months of 2021, many products and groups of products saw increases in export value, including: rubber, fruit and vegetable products, pepper, cashew nuts, cassava and cassava products, livestock products, pangasius, shrimp, and wood products.

Particularly, items such as rubber, vegetables and fruits, cashew nuts, cassava and cassava products enjoyed growth in both export volume and value.

Over the past 7 months, Vietnam’s agricultural, forestry and fishery exports were mainly exported to markets in Asia (accounting for 42%), Americas (31%), Europe (11%), Africa (1.9%), and Oceania (1.5%).

Notably, the US is the largest export market, with an export value of over 8.2 billion USD (accounting for 28.9%). It is followed by China, nearly 5.5 billion USD (19.2%); Japan, over 1.9 billion USD (6.8%) and the Republic of Korea, 1.2 billion (4.3 %).

Hanoi: Hotel market to receive new investments despite COVID-19

Although the room occupancy rate in the second quarter of 2021 was only 27%, the Hanoi hotel market is still holding on during the COVID-19 epidemic. Despite the epidemic, this year, the market will still welcome more investors in all segments.

This is the comment of Mr. Matthew Powell, Director of Savills Hanoi (belonging to Savills Global Real Estate Group based in the UK), in Savills Vietnam’s market report for the first half of 2021.

According to statistics, the average hotel room price in Hanoi is 77 USD/room/night, up 1% quarter on quarter but down 9% year on year. The market’s supply remained stable quarter on quarter with 10,120 rooms from 17 5-star hotels, 17 4-star hotels and 32 3-star hotels.

In which, 5-star hotels account for 54% of the supply and lead with an average room revenue of 28 USD/room/night, thanks to the main group of guests being businesses and long-stay guests.

As of the end of the second quarter, five 3-star hotels providing 315 rooms are temporarily closed due to COVID-19 and for repair. In addition, 10 hotels from 3 to 5 stars have been selected as quarantine locations./.
