US makes up 26.2% of Vietnam’s farm produce export value

The US accounted for 26.2% of Vietnam’s total farm produce export revenue during January-November of 2020, making it the largest importer of the country's agro-forestry-fishery products, with a turnover of 9.8 billion USD, Vietnam News Agency quoted figures of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

China came second by splashing out nearly 9.2 billion USD on the Vietnamese products, falling 6.6 percent from the same time last year, and making up of 24.6% of the country’s total.

According to the ministry, agro-forestry-fisheries export turnover reached 3.72 billion USD in November, raising the total figure in the first 11 months of this year to 37.42 billion USD, up 2.4% over the same period of 2019.

Meanwhile, the country imported about 28.05 billion USD worth of agro-forestry-fisheries products in the period, resulting in a surplus of nearly 9.37 billion USD, up 10.9% year on year.

Specifically, export earnings of major farm produce were 16.76 billion USD, a drop of 0.5%, while that of livestock reached 297 million USD, a fall of 18.5%, fisheries nearly 7.75 billion USD, down 0.9%, and forestry products 11.65 billion USD, up 15% year on year.

Numerous activities welcoming New Year to be held in Da Nang

The central city of Da Nang is planning a myriad of New Year welcoming activities to attract tourists, and they will be organized at an appropriate scale depending on the COVID-19 situation, a local official said on December 9.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the “Da Nang Festival – Welcome New Year 2021” program, slated for December 30, 2020 to January 3, 2021, aims to help revitalize tourism amid the new normal so as to ensure the twin targets of pandemic control and socio-economic development, according to Director of the municipal Tourism Department Truong Thi Hong Hanh.

She noted that apart from recent travel stimulus efforts, festivities held during the New Year holiday will also help advertise local culture, cuisine, and places of interest as well as create new tourism products so as to draw more visitors to the city.

The programme, to take place at the square of the Asia Park in Hai Chau district, will feature a wide range of activities like a cyclo parade, free night tours on the Han River, street music shows, and singing and dancing performances with traditional musical instruments.

A noodle festival with typical noodle dishes of Vietnam and other countries, along with booths introducing Da Nang’s delicacies, is also expected to add further to the city’s attractiveness./.

Vietnam-China border trade fair to be held online

The 20th Vietnam-China border trade fair is set to get underway in the Chinese province of Yunnan on December 12 in an online format, VOV News reported.

Within the framework of the fair, there will also be a seminar held on economic and trade co-operation between Vietnam’s Lao Cai and Yunnan provinces, along with the signing of contracts between Vietnamese and Chinese firms.

The annual event is typically held on a rotary basis between the Vietnamese province of Lao Cai and Yunnan province of China, aiming to promote trade between the two countries.

The fair, to be virtually held due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic will offer a chance for participating businesses to promote their products while seeking additional opportunities to expand into new markets./.
