The event was held within the framework of the third Senior Officials Meeting (SOM 3) and related meetings, aims to provide updated information, share good models and experiences in building and applying technical regulations, mechanisms of assessing the suitability and TBT agreement; and coordinate with public-partnership areas in applying technical standards.

It was attended by more than 100 delegates from APEC economies, international organizations such as WTO, OECD, ISO and IEC, and guests from Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.

In his speech at the event, Nguyen Van Khoi, APEC Sub-committee on Standards and Conformance, and chair of the meeting, hoped that economies will be able to use the information provided by the workshop to produce higher quality regulations and reduce the chances that proposed measures could impede trade.

Participants focused on discussing the reduction of technical barriers to unnecessary trade, benefiting the multilateral trading system in general, and enterprises in each APEC economy in particular, especially small and medium-sized enterprises which are struggling to compete in the world economy./.
