Bac Giang builds contacts for lychee consumption

An online conference has been held in the northern province of Bac Giang to promote lychee consumption to more than 60 domestic and foreign demand points; including 13 bridge points in China, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Mr. Phan The Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Bac Giang provincial People’s Committee, said that this year’s weather is favorable, so lychee trees will flower and bear fruit at the rate of 70-90%.

Bac Giang lychee harvest output this year is expected to reach about 180,000 tons; in which the production of safe fruits according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards is about 112,900 tons, accounting for 62.7% of the total production.

The locality currently has 18 area codes for growing lychee with an area of 218 hectares, producing and supplying to the US, European (EU), and Australian markets. The Japanese market has 30 growing area codes, with an area of more than 269 hectares and an output of about 1,800 thousand tons.

At the conference, the delegates signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in consuming Bac Giang lychee on e-commerce platforms, and cut the ribbon to export the fruit to be consumed in domestic and foreign markets.

Aiming to help the province’s lychee fruit and agricultural products successfully access foreign markets, at the beginning of the season, the provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to develop a plan to promote lychee consumption with many new content, in line with the developments of the COVID-19 epidemic and the current domestic and world market situation.

At the conference, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Duong also emphasized that Bac Giang lychee has been well received and appreciated by the markets. This year’s lychee crop, Bac Giang has guided farmers on techniques to care for and expand lychee growing areas according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP and organic lychee standards./.
