Cashew exports earn over USD960 million in 4 months

In the first 4 months of 2020, Vietnam exported 140,000 tons of cashew, worth USD963 million, a year-on-year increase of 21.5% in volume and 5.8% in value, the Export-Import Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade has reported.

According to the department, the price of raw cashew nuts tends to recover due to businesses’ demand for production materials.

Specifically, the prices of raw cashew nuts were estimated at VND26,000-29,000 per kilogram in Dak Lak, Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai provinces.

Preliminary statistics showed that the export prices of cashew nuts in the first 4 months were at USD6,894 per ton, a year-on-year reduction of 12.9%.

On the world market, in early May, the prices of raw and processed cashew nuts decreased despite the fact that many countries and territories have gradually been easing social distancing.

In India, the price of cashew nuts decreased due to a large amount of raw cashew nuts that remained in stock during the time the country’s blockade measures. According to the Indian Cashew Industry Federation, about 15,000 tons of raw cashew nuts are in stock. Meanwhile, the consumption of cashew nuts in India fell sharply.

According to statistics from the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, in the first quarter of 2020, the country's cashew exports reached 121,976 tons, a year-on-year reduction of 7.2%./.
