A representative of the Vietnam Maritime Administration said that, despite being strongly affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, container cargo through Vietnam’s seaports still maintained growth momentum in the first half of 2021.

Specifically, the total volume of goods via seaports reached nearly 363 million tonnes in the first six months, up 7% annually. In particular, the volume of container cargo grew by 22% year-on-year to more than 12.4 million TEUs.

According to the statistics of the Vietnam Maritime Administration, in the first months of 2021, several seaports saw high increases in the volume of container goods, such as: My Tho, 74%; An Giang, 50%, Ho Chi Minh city, over 17%; and Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 38%.

However, there are also some seaport areas where the volume of container goods decreased sharply, such as: Quang Ninh, 97%; Thanh Hoa, 60%; and Can Tho and Binh Thuan, 10% each./.
