The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board has received the first train carriages of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Line 1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien section) 8 days after leaving Kasado Port (Japan).

The move is part of activities to welcome the 11th Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress (term 2020-2025).

The carriages are 37 tons in weight with a total capacity of 930 passengers, including 147 seats and 783 stands. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hung, Deputy General Director of Sai Gon Port, said Japan’s Hitachi contractor is responsible for ensuring quality and safety of transporting the carriages from Kasado to Vietnam.

The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Line 1, from Ben Thanh (District 1) to Depot Long Binh, has a total investment capital of more than VND43.7 trillion. The line has 14 stations, including three tunnel stations and 11 overhead stations. Ho Chi Minh City sets target of reaching 85% of volume of the project and putting it into operation in the end of 2021./.
