Overseas remittances to Ho Chi Minh city through credit institutions by the end of March 2018 reached USD1.12 billion, a 4.5% rise from the same period last year, said the State Bank of Vietnam’s branch in the southern hub.

According to the organ, more than 50% of the remittances came from the US, Canada, and Australia, to support the lives of relatives in Vietnam.

The amount of remittances is regular through years and is not significantly affected by the USD policy on the international market, which has much higher interest rate than Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the National Centre for Socio-Economic Information and Forecast under the Ministry of Planning and Investment said that in 2018, the remittances to Vietnam will suffer pressures from the recovery of the world economy and other foreign investment inflows./.
