Overseas remittances to HCM city at record 6.1 billion USD

Ho Chi Minh city received remittances worth USD6.1 billion in 2020, an increase of 15% compared to the previous year, Deputy Chairman of the city People’s Committee Duong Anh Duc said at a conference held on March 18.

In his speech at the event, Mr. Duong Anh Duc hailed the great contributions of overseas remittance to the development of Ho Chi Minh city and the whole country.

He asked the Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs in Ho Chi Minh city to promote collective intelligence, continue to advise local leaders to organize conferences and seminars to gather ideas of entrepreneurs, intellectuals and overseas Vietnamese in the fields of digital transformation and digital economy; especially issues related to the 3 breakthrough programs and 1 key program in the city.

Mr. Vo Thanh Chat, Vice Chairman of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs in Ho Chi Minh City, said that in 2020, the Committee welcomed about 1,450 expatriates and relatives to learn about policies, laws and administrative procedures related to investment, business, labor, accommodation and housing.

The Committee has also well performed the role of a bridge in successfully receiving a batch of 9,338 books, with a total value of over 1.1 million USD. At the same time, the Committee actively coordinated with overseas Vietnamese to distribute books to universities in Ho Chi Minh City.

It made comments on the draft of the Department of Science and Technology on the process of attracting and recruiting experts, scientists and people with special talents for areas that the city needs./.
