Seafood export exceeds 1 billion dollars in a month for first time

Export turnover of seafood products has increased sharply since the beginning of the year, for the first time surpassing 1 billion USD within a month, according to the General Department of Customs.

According to statistics of the General Department of Customs, in March, seafood exports reached 1.02 billion USD, up nearly 60% from the previous month. Of which, sharp increase was seen in the Chinese market at 123%; Japan, 82%; the EU market (27 countries), 62%;  and the US, 57%.

By the end of the first quarter of 2022, seafood exports reached 2.52 billion USD, up 45.4% over the same period last year, equivalent to 788 million USD. In which, exports to all major markets increased sharply, specifically: the US, reaching 574 million USD, up 70.8%; Japan, 347 million USD, up 13%; and the EU, 297 million USD, up 57.4%.

The Chinese market reached the highest growth level ever with 326 million USD, up 104% over the same period last year.

According to the customs office, seafood exports made the 4th largest contribution to the increase in export of the whole country compared to the same period last year.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), many seafood products in the first quarter of this year grew strongly, leading to an increase in overall export turnover./.
