Seafood exports to hit USD5 billion in second half

Seafood exports to the EU, the US and Japan will see satisfactory results in the second half of the year, especially shrimp, after the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) takes effect, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

The Chinese market sees no sign of positivity for the six months, thus, export to the market is forecast to decrease slightly compared to the same period last year.

Seafood exports during the period are forecast to recover with a growth of about 5%, equivalent to more than USD5 billion, bringing the total figure for the whole year to USD9 billion, a year-on-year rise of 2%.

The Directorate of Fisheries estimated seafood export turnover at nearly USD4 billion in the first half, equivalent to 100.6% of the same period last year.

Together with this, total seafood output reached 3.77 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 6%.

Although exports of shrimp and tra fish witnessed signs of reduction in the six months, shipment of other products such as tuna, cuttle-fish, octopus and sea fishes still increased compared to the same period last year./.
