Some districts, wholesale markets, and traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City have said they were ready to reopen, after a long interruption due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, with a step-by-step roadmap.

The information has been recently revealed by the Southern Working Group of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

By the end of the year, wholesale markets are expected to recover 100% of their operating capacity.

The HCM City Department of Industry and Trade said that after September 30, the city plans to resume commercial and service activities (except for karaoke, discos, bars, massage; on-site catering services, activities at amusement parks, sports facilities, cinemas, and commercial centres).

The city has also issued a set of safety criteria for wholesale and traditional markets operation. Accordingly, all traders and employees involved in working and trading at markets must be vaccinated with 2 doses of COVID-19 vaccine and ensure meeting all criteria on epidemic prevention and control.

Earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Official Letter 5854 guiding the People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to reopen traditional markets and wholesale markets.

The agency said that the reopening of traditional markets is an important move to gradually stabilize social life and reopen the economy because the traditional distribution channel plays the key role of wholesale markets as they account for nearly 80% of the total circulation and consumption of goods./.
