Webinar connects businesses of Vietnam and India

(CPV) – The Vietnamese Embassy in India has been actively working with vaccine production centers in India to exchange information on the purchase of India’s COVID-19 vaccines and propose the two countries cooperate to produce vaccines.

That information was emphasized by Vietnamese Ambassador to India Pham Sanh Chau at a webinar discussing business between Vietnam and India. The event is part of a series of trade promotion activities in 2021, co-organized by the commercial affairs section of the Vietnamse Embassy in India, the Federation of Indian Industry (CII) and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

In his speech at the event, Ambassador Pham Sanh Chau hailed the initiative of the organizers while stressing that this is an important event for the management agencies, industry associations, VCCI and the business communities of the two countries to discuss policy mechanisms, investment and business opportunities.

This year’s event focuses on three main areas including information technology and electronics; auto and motorbike spare parts, and supporting industries; and topics on drugs, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment. 

In the fields of drugs, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, Ambassador Pham Sanh Chau said that the COVID-19 pandemic has shown the importance of the health sector for the health of the global population. The embassy has been actively working with vaccine production centers of India such as Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech to exchange information about the earliest possible purchase of Indian vaccines to serve people.

He hoped that Indian businesses would invest in modern technology production lines in Vietnam, not merely processing and packaging. The Vietnamese government is committed to creating the best conditions for drug and pharmaceutical manufacturers in Vietnam.

Representative of the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ms. Le Thi Mai Anh, Head of Southeast Asia, South Asia and Regional Cooperation Division, said that despite the heavy impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam-India bilateral trade still achieved positive results and the industry structure has changed significantly.

India was the third largest pharmaceutical supplier to Vietnam after France and Germany in 2020. Vietnam imported 257 million USD worth of drugs and pharmaceuticals from India./.
