China’s claims to historic rights over waters within the nine-dash line are contrary to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) at The Hague, the Netherlands, said.

Both the Philippines and Japan have called on China to respect the Permanent Court of Arbitration’s (PCA) ruling that rejected Beijing’s nine-dash line claims in the East Sea, as part of their participation at the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit.
