Ho Chi Minh City and UNICEF share experience in children friendly initiative

Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Vo Van Hoan on April 28 received Ms Rana Flowers, UNICEF Representative in Vietnam, for an exchange on cooperative programs.

During the reception, Mr. Hoan recognized and appreciated UNICEF efforts in activities in Vietnam, contributing to protecting, caring for and developing children in Vietnam and in the city. “In particular, the project initiative for a child friendly city has contributed to helping the city address priorities for protection, healthcare, education and nutrition for children,” he said.

According to Mr. Hoan, Ho Chi Minh City hopes to continue cooperation with UNICEF in specific programs and projects, contributing to improving social services, supporting policy making, creating favourable technology and conditions for child care and protection, and realizing child rights in accordance with the city’s sustainable development orientation in the future.

UNICEF Representative in Vietnam Rana Flowers said that UNICEF is responsible for giving technical support to Vietnam in realizing Government level projects on ensuring child rights, adding that UNICEF in Vietnam cares about the city’s future vision relating to child rights, for completing the cooperation plan between UNICEF and Vietnam in the next 5 years.

Appreciating Ho Chi Minh City’s efforts and results in the implementation of the project initiative for a child friendly city, she expressed her hope to increase cooperation with the city in addressing challenges relating to children, and during the process to build the city into a smart, modern but child friendly urban area./.
