Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son's visit to Cambodia comes less than a month after the State visit of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc. That shows the importance of the relationship between the two countries.

The 2022 is the year Vietnam and Cambodia celebrate 55 years of diplomatic relations (June 24).
Leaders of the two countries have chosen 2022 as the Vietnam-Cambodia and Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Year.
Talking about the visit, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang highlighted the significance of the visit from January 19-20 at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia Prak Sokhonn.
According to the ambassador, the two sides will discuss activities marking the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties, along with regional and international issues of shared concern.
The visit will contribute to deepening and improving the efficiency of the “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability” between the two countries, the ambassador believed.
To further promote the good traditional relationship, the Vietnamese Ambassador noted that the two countries will focus on maintaining and fostering their political ties; continuing to strengthening the good cooperative relationship in the fields of security, defense and foreign affairs; promoting and constantly improving the efficiency of cooperation in the economic field, create new driving forces for the development of each country, and become a resource and factor to ensure the sustainable development of the two countries' relations.
The two sides will continue to promote cooperation in culture, education-training, health care and science-technology; and will jointly promote the cooperation and mutual assistance between ministries, branches and localities, especially localities sharing a border; and promote the friendly and mutually supportive relations between the peoples, mass organizations and people's organizations of the two countries, contributing to the deepening and making more effective the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries./.
