According to the Brazilian Ambassador, over the past time, the people-to-people exchange has been increased. Notable is the cooperation between the Brazilian Embassy in Hanoi and the Hanoi University in training Spanish language, one the best ways to study Brazil’s diversified and attractive culture; the debut of the Brazil-Vietnam Dictionary; and the exchange between businesses of the two countries, including the cooperation of food and beverage businesses. “In addition, there are many initiatives by expatriate communities in both countries that enhance mutual understanding of Brazilian society and Vietnamese society,” he said. “The Brazilian community in Vietnam is interested in promoting Brazilian culture in Vietnam through sports such as football, Jiu Jitsu, music and dances, contributing to helping Vietnam have more understanding about the Brazilian country and people.”

Talking about the two countries’ comprehensive partnership, he said that the bilateral relationship between Brazil and Vietnam has deepened and diversified since the establishment of a comprehensive partnership in 2007. Bilateral trade is the most prominent sector, with turnover up from USD500 million in 2009 to more than USD6 billion in 2021, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

The number of high-level official visits is a testament to the increasingly close relationship between the two countries. In 2007, Vietnam welcomed the visits and working sessions of the Brazilian President and ministers very respectfully and effectively. The Vietnamese side also saw high-ranking leaders of the National Assembly and the Government visit and work in Brazil. “ In the near future, the Brazilian Government will have many active foreign affairs plans towards Vietnam,” said the Brazilian Ambassador.

Up to now, Brazil and Vietnam have signed 15 bilateral agreements in the fields of health, culture, science and technology, shipping and air services.

To boost bilateral cooperation amid the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the ambassador, the two countries should take advantage of using information technology. “We are making plans for linking Brazilian and Vietnamese businesses virtually, and organizing online workshops on Brazilian literature with the Hanoi University,” he added. “A series of Brazilian films is expected to be held and I am also thinking of online events on Brazil-Vietnam food.”

Noting that Vietnam’s Hue City and Brazil’s São Luís do Maranhão City have been twinned, he expressed his hope that the initiative would be expanded for many other cities./.
