Thailand admires Vietnam for COVID-19 prevention

According to Ms. Morakot Janemathukorn, in 2020, the world has been witnessing an unprecedented challenge in the COVID-19 pandemic. However, despite difficulties, Vietnam and Thailand continue to maintain high-level exchanges, overcome the COVID-19 pandemic, stand ready for post-COVID-19 economic cooperation, as well as contribute to peace, prosperity and development in the region and in the world.

She also admired the Vietnamese Government for its resolute, responsible and effective measures in its current widespread COVID-19 prevention effort.

She added that 2020 is a very important year for Vietnam as it takes on the ASEAN Chairmanship. Under the chairmanship of Vietnam, meetings within the framework of ASEAN as well as dialogue partners have achieved good results. “The RCEP Agreement, the ASEAN Fund in response of COVID-19 and many other signed agreements will be a solid preparation for ASEAN to quickly return to development and firmly become a prosperous and united region,” she went on to say. 

In 2021, Vietnam and Thailand will celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, an important milestone of the bilateral friendship. Ms. Morakot Janemathukorn showed her confidence that the two countries will continue to cooperate towards prosperity, for the people of Vietnam and Thailand.

Attending the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Dung, on behalf of the Government and the people of Vietnam, congratulates the Thai Royal Government, the Thai people and friends for the events.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung said that over the years, under the rule of King Maha Vajiralongorn, under the leadership of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, the Thai people made great achievements in all areas, especially success in preventing the COVID-19 pandemic, helping the country be considered a safe destination. “The Thai Government has promptly launched appropriate policies to gradually recover socio-economic after the pandemic,” he said.

According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung, being neighboring countries and fellow members of ASEAN, the strengthening strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand over the past years has developed well, increasingly deep and substantial. Political diplomatic relations have been increasingly reinforced and political trust has been increased.

“In the context of the complicated COVID-19 pandemic, the two sides still maintain effective communication channels at all levels, especially the phone talk between the two Prime Ministers on November 6, which helped tackle difficulties and look for ways to increase cooperation efficiency in all fields, especially post-pandemic economics and trade.

Currently, Thai investment in Vietnam continues to increase with 592 projects and total investment capital of USD12.4 billion, being one of the leading investors in Vietnam.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung once again thanked the Thai Government for supporting the Vietnamese Government with USD30,000 to overcome the consequences of floods in Central Vietnam.

Noting that the two countries cooperate and coordinate closely not only in the bilateral framework, but also at regional and international forums, especially at the United Nations, ASEAN, as well as other sub-cooperation mechanisms.

“Vietnam thanks Thailand for its strong support and cooperation to help Vietnam successfully assume the role of ASEAN 2020 Chair, thereby further strengthening solidarity and unity in ASEAN, as well as the central role of ASEAN in regional issues,” he emphasized.

He also expressed his belief that the Vietnam-Thailand relationship will continue to become stronger in the coming years, maturing into a strengthened strategic partnership, meeting the desire of the two peoples, making a positive contribution to peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development in the region and in the world./.
