Vietnam, Indonesia promote training cooperation

A meeting was held on December 22 by the Open University of Ho Chi Minh City and the Indonesian Consulate General in the city to celebrate the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia - Vietnam (December 30).

Speaking at the meeting, Indonesian Consul General to Ho Chi Minh city Hanif Salim thanked and appreciated the Ho Chi Minh city Open University for coordinating to organize the meaningful event, which he said was an opportunity to demonstrate the strength and achievements of the cooperative relationship between the two countries. According to the Indonesian Consul General, two-way trade in 2019 reached USD9.07 billion, and was expected to reach USD10 billion, the target for 2023, this year. “Although the COVID-19 pandemic changes global economic conditions, we are confident that the figure can be reached in one or two years,” he said.

As of 2020, the Indonesian Government granted 200 scholarships to Vietnamese students. Additionally, it has also sent 10 Indonesian language teachers who are native Indonesian speakers to help students in some universities in Vietnam.

Addressing the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha, Rector of Ho Chi Minh city Open University, said that the close and long term diplomatic relationship between the two countries has clearly shown great directions in working together to promote development between the two sides.

“The 65-year bilateral diplomatic relations between the two countries has greatly contributed to promoting cooperation in many aspects, including in the education sector,” he added. “The Ho Chi Minh city Open University's exchange of students and cooperation in training and scientific research with many Indonesian universities clearly demonstrates the cooperation.”

During the meeting, Ho Chi Minh city Open University and the Indonesian Consulate General signed the cooperation agreement. The Ho Chi Minh city Open University also launched the Indonesian Language and Culture Club (BABU Club), creating an environment for students to study the Indonesian culture and language, serving both their lessons and skills after graduation./.
